Meet the Vizgen Team: Aayushi Maheshwari

Q&A with Aayushi Maheshwari, Vizgen Software Engineer

What is your favorite quote?

“Failure is success in progress.” ~ Albert Einstein

What do you do at Vizgen?

As a Software Engineer at Vizgen, I work on the user interface our customers use to access the MERSCOPE hardware. I apply my technical skills to design and develop the software based on client’s needs to provide them with functionality ensuring user satisfaction.

How did you end up at Vizgen? Why did you choose to join the team?

I have always been keen on working in the life sciences sector and was looking for my next big opportunity. When I came across this position at a startup company; I was eager to learn more about what, how and mainly why the company is doing what it’s doing. Vizgen being a pioneer in spatial genomics, gives me a chance to learn and be part of something so cutting edge. It brings me great delight to be able to contribute to the success of a growing company.

Why did you become a software engineer? What drew you to this field?

I like to solve problems. I chose Software Development as a career because it not only allows me to solve challenging problems but also come up with more efficient and creative solutions. I was fascinated to see how everything works by a mere piece of code. It’s everywhere! During the start of my undergrad, I had courses from all the different engineering fields: Mechanical, Automobile, Electronics, and so on. One of my initial courses was Design and Analysis of Algorithms from Computer Engineering. At first it went over my head, but gradually I started getting a hang of it. I went deeper into it, understanding different ways of solving problems and coming up with efficient solutions. I knew my calling! There is so much to software development, and always more to learn.

What are the values that drive you?

Resolving healthcare and medical problems, in turn solving human problems. Life Sciences is one of the large sectors which involves lot of scientific research and can help find solutions to many outstanding issues in the medical field. I want to do my bit in solving these problems with my software development knowledge. By being a part of Vizgen, I would be able to develop a software that provides an interface for communicating with the hardware to study cells and gene formation for disease research.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I love to try new food. Bubble tea and Ramen are my absolute favorite. So, I am always in search of new restaurants to try. I am also into fitness, yoga, and love to travel. I am an avid photographer of food, nature, and color.
